York Historic
Vehicle Group

Celebrating our
transport heritage

York Historic Vehicle Group (YHVG) was formed over 30 years ago to bring together people who were interested in old road vehicles, ranging from motorcycles to cars, lorries and buses.

Shortly after the establishment of the club, a rally was held on the York Racecourse, off Knavesmire Road, and this event has been held in September every year since.  A short road-run from Tadcaster to the Knavesmire rally field takes place for drivers who want to show their vehicles on the road.  This rally usually attracts between 400 and 600 vehicles of all types and, along with autojumble and refreshments stalls, a good day is had by all.

During June, an Evening rally (a bring-your-own-vehicle gathering) is held on Rufforth Airfield, where supper is also laid on.  Throughout the year there is a Club Night on the 3rd Tuesday of each month (7.30pm) at the Winning Post Inn, Bishopthorpe, York, where a speaker gives a talk on a motor related subject.  A general discussion and supper follows this.

NEW: 'Drive it Day' -  20 April 2008

This year’s York Historic Vehicle Group Rally was held on 30th September.  It also comprised the Jim Clarke Gathering on the 29th & 30th September, which was a 2-day road run for commercial vehicles, finishing at the Racecourse Showground for the Show.

Please visit the Knavesmire Rally and the Jim Clarke Gathering pages for further details and a selection of photographs from the two events.
