'Drive it Day' Run

Report
Drive it Day Run
20 April 2008

The Federation of British Historic Vehicles Clubs requested all clubs to get their vehicles on the road.  So our club got underway from the Highwayman Café on the A64, in a run organised by Jim Beresford.  Over thirty lorries, cars and other vehicles set off on the A64 on a cold wet day, heading towards Slingsby.

Not far down the road the cavalcade ground to a halt as Jim’s nephew, Alan, in a Fordson Thames broke down as we sat there with ‘Mr Vectra’ and ‘Mr Mondeo man’ driving past us giving two-finger salutes.

A young man in front of me driving a yellow 1978 Ford Escort RS2000 sped off at a rate of knots: we all followed and arrived at Eden Camp.  Thankfully, the Fordson was towed off-road by Pete Midgley and got going again (only a fuel blockage).

Eden Camp is a great place for people like me who are interested in history, and also people interested in World War 2 transport.  The facilities, such as catering, at Eden camp are good.  Everybody that Gary and I spoke to agreed they had an enjoyable day.

Thanks once again to Jim for organising the run, and thanks to everyone who turned out on a cold, wet, day.

Thanks, Rodney
